3 Penn State freshmen named All-Americans by The Athletic

Penn State highlighted The Athletic’s college football freshman All-American list.

The Lions had three players, linebacker Micah Parsons, tight end Pat Freiermuth, and receiver K.J. Hamler, honored, which was the most of any school across the FBS landscape. The list was released on Thursday, and all three were vital to the program’s 9-3 success and No. 12 ranking as it awaits a date opposite No. 14 Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl in Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla.

“Though he didn’t start until Penn State’s second-to-last game and had to share snaps, Parsons leads the Nittany Lions with 69 tackles and has four tackles for loss and a forced fumble,” The Athletic notes.

Freiermuth’s yardage total was not in Mike Gesicki’s range, but his touchdown production was, as he netted seven scoring grabs during his first year on campus. As for Hamler, he was the team’s spark plug, as he finished with a few strong kick returns, five receiving scores, and also a rushing touchdown.
