Blessed & Honored: Ohio State Commit Doug Nester Visits Happy Valley

EBB AND FLOW ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE

Penn State was in the final two for three-star OT Jakai Moore, but the Virginia native ended up going with South Carolina, making the call for the Gamecocks yesterday afternoon.

Despite Moore’s three-star ranking, he’s a big time talent with the size, length, and athleticism to play left tackle at the next level. The Nittany Lions had been after Moore for a long time, so to lose him two days before the early signing period certainly stings.

Fortunately, Penn State appears to have at least one other option along the offensive front — that being four-star Ohio State commit Doug Nester. The West Virginia native made a visit to Happy Valley over the weekend, and being that he made it with teammates (one being walk-on candidate Graeson Malashevich), it looks like Nester’s visit was unofficial.

While Nester probably isn’t going to be a left tackle at the next level, he’s a massive kid at 6-foot-6.5, and should find a home at right tackle or inside at guard. He’s got a bit of work to do on his pass blocking, but there’s a reason Nester is the No. 106 ranked player in the country.

As for Nester’s recruitment, he remains committed to Ohio State but isn’t expected to sign tomorrow. Provided he goes unsigned, Penn State (along with a few other schools) should get an official visit come January.

ZACH HARRISON LULZ

So Zach Harrison is going to tweet out his commitment tomorrow, and the consensus is: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Without delving too deep into the $inside info$, I will say this: no one knows what is going on. All three finalists — Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan — are in it, but at the same time, nobody is in it. For all we know, Zach Harrison might not even be real.

Regardless, stay tuned for Wednesday.

QUICK NOTES

  • Four-star Florida wideout John Dunmore, along with some teammates, took an official visit to Miami this past weekend. Obviously, that isn’t the best news if your Penn State. But as of right now, there are no Crystal Ball predictions in Miami’s favor which is good news for the Nittany Lions. It certainly doesn’t mean Penn State is out of the woods yet, but the fact there wasn’t an instantaneous barrage is a positive nonetheless.
  • Right now, there are only two known Penn State prospects that are announcing tomorrow: four-star IMG running back Noah Cain and four-star Connecticut wide receiver Cornelius Johnson. Penn State is surging for Cain (who is announcing on ESPN2 at 11:30 a.m. EST), while the Wolverines look to be in good position for Johnson.
  • Three-star New Jersey product Smith Vilbert released a top four of Penn State, Oregon, Florida, and Syracuse. As we talked about last week, he isn’t likely to sign tomorrow so while the Nittany Lions appear to be in a good spot, his offer list is going to be get a little wild come January.
