WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Danville Dashers had a chance to get one over on the Federal Hockey League-leading Carolina Thunderbirds on Saturday.
The Dashers took a 3-2 lead early in the third period, but the Thunderbirds would score three times after that and would go on to win 5-4.
Nathan Pelligra had two goals for Danville, while Daniel Martin had a goal and three assists, Justin Brausen had a goals and Nathan Campbell and Joseph Brennan each had a assist.
Matt Kaludis had 46 saves in goal for the Dashers, who will face the Mentor Ice Breakers for a two-game set next weekend.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Illini had an 17-10 first quarter lead, but was outscored the rest of the way in a loss to the Nittany Lions.
Danville native and Illinois freshman Arieal Scott had 10 points while Alex Wittinger led the team with 19 points and four steals, Brandi Beasley had seven points and five rebounds and Cierra Rice had five points.
The Illini drop to 9-7 and 1-4 in the Big Ten Conference and will return to the State Farm Center on Thursday to play Nebraska at 7 p.m.
