For the Future (12.03.18): The Staff Hits The Road, Nolan Smith Comes to Town, and More!

With a nearly a month until the Citrus Bowl, the coaching staff is shifting their focus to dominating the recruiting trail.

Nolan Smith Has The “Best Weekend of his life”

Nolan Smith, the number one player in the class of 2019, visited campus this weekend and seemed to enjoy his time in State College. The Savannah, GA defensive end, who currently attends IMG Academy in Florida, stayed with Micah Parsons over the weekend, a fellow big-name pass rusher who had every school fighting for his services. Smith is currently a Georgia commit but if the visit went as well as Smith indicated, Penn State could have given him something to think about leading into this month’s early signing period.

Staff does in-home visits

James Franklin and Ricky Rahne made their way to New Jersey to check in on four-star quarterback commit Taquan Roberson. The dual-threat quarterback has been committed to the Nittany Lions since October of 2017.

Brent Pry and James Franklin took a trip down to Virginia to meet with five-star linebacker commit Brandon Smith. Smith, the 24th ranked player nationally in the class and second-ranked middle linebacker, committed to Penn State back in May.

Lions make Three top teams lists

Three-star defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte put the Nittany Lions in his top eight schools. The 2019 prospect is the 35th-ranked defensive tackle in his class, and the fourth-ranked prospect in New York. He is considered a heavy Penn State lean.

Five-star outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman continues to be high on the Nittany Lions, placing them in his top seven schools. The DC native is the No.13 prospect and the second highest rated outside linebacker in the class of 2020. They’ll need to beat out some of the biggest names in the sport to earn his services.

Four-star offensive tackle Aaryn Parks has placed the Nittany Lions in his top five schools. The 2020 prospect is one of the top offensive line prospects in his class and at 6’5/309, already looks the part. The Nittany Lions are considered the favorite.

New Offers

The Nittany Lions have extended an offer to 2020 outside linebacker, Ladarius Tennison. A four-star prospect according to 247, Tennison has picked up some impressive offers this fall, including two of his home state’s biggest programs in Miami and Florida State.

Ohio native DeaMonte Trayanum picked up a Penn State offer last week. The 2020 prospect is expected to play running back at the next level and currently stands at 5’11/215. His hometown Buckeyes are considered the favorite according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.
