LHU, PSU, Bucknell compete at Mat-Town Open at Lock Haven | News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN — The nationally-ranked Lock Haven University wrestling team hosted the 13th annual Mat-Town Open Tournament marking the first time this season LHU has competed in the friendly confines of Thomas Fieldhouse. The No. 17 Bald Eagles didn’t disappoint as a number of LHU wrestlers finished among the top-four at their respective weight class.

Six members of the Penn State wrestling team competed as well. Three Nittany Lions placed at the event as wrestlers competed both attached and unattached.

Bucknell also competed in the event.

Leading the way for Lock Haven’s unattached contingent of 12 was Isaac Reid and Austin Bell.

Reid finished second at 285 pounds and Bell was second in a round-robin style 174-pound bracket. Reid was 2-1 on the day and he opened the tournament with a pin. In the finals, he was edged 2-1 by Cornell’s Brendan Furman. After opening the day with a loss, Bell rattled off three straight wins to finish the day at 3-1 overall and placed second.

Penn State redshirt freshman Joey Blumer led Penn State with a runner-up finish at 149. Blumer went 2-1, advancing to the finals before losing in the title bout. Sophomore Brian Friery, of Lewisburg, picked up a win at 157, placing fourth. Redshirt freshman Scott Obendorfer placed fourth at 141 as well, going 2-2 with a major.

Dalton Rohrbaugh and DJ Fehlman both placed third today at 133 and 141, respectively, for Lock Haven.

Bucknell’s Jacob Ferreira lost to Finger Lakes Prep’s Johnathan Lowe in the 184-pound final as Ferreira was pinned in 6:02. Brandon Seidman competed at 125 pounds and won his first bout over Columbia’s Spencer Good, 3-1, before he lost by tech fall to Columbia’s Mike Kelly, 16-0.
