Lions scheduled to host nation’s No. 1

Penn State is set to host the nation’s top prospect this weekend, provided the weather allows, as Damascus (Md.) defensive lineman Bryan Bresee confirmed a Sunday trip is on the schedule. The five-star prospect is set to take in the Nittany Lions’ home wrestling match against Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. Nittany Lions redshirt freshman wrestler Scott Obendorfer is a graduate of Damascus High School.

Lions247 first reported the visit on Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound Bresee is arguably the Nittany Lions’ top defensive target in the next cycle. He is the nation’s top prospect in the Class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite and 247Sports rankings. The Nittany Lions were the second program to offer Bresee before his sophomore season.

The Maryland Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2018, Bresee has a top six that includes the Nittany Lions, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State. He has attended the last two Blue-White Games and the last two White Outs, the most recent of which was his last time on campus. He also came to the Lasch Bash recruiting barbecue last year.

The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are tied at the top of the 247Sports Crystal Ball with three predictions each way. Bresee also took in games at Ohio State and Georgia last season and plans to be at Clemson next weekend.

Penn State head coach James Franklin visited him at school last week and took in his basketball game last Friday night along with defensive line coach Sean Spencer, tight ends coach Tyler Bowen, safeties coach Tim Banks and assistant defensive line coach and special teams coordinator Phil Galiano. Staffs from Georgia and Ohio State were also at the game.

“That’s definitely one of the schools I’m going to take an official to,” Bresee said of Penn State last month. “One of the big things is how close it is to my home. I really like the coaches there. I know a bunch of players going there and they seem to really like it. Those are the big things.”

Bresee also has plans to be back on campus next month as well.
