MMQB – The Defensive Ends Are Imposing Their Will

As the Nittany Lions turned the calendar from October to November, there were still plenty of questions across the team. Injury at quarterback, questionable starters at linebacker, a delayed youth movement at receiver.

One thing that has not been questionable has been the play of the defensive ends. In recent weeks, the ends of the defensive line have flashed quality play here and there, but it wasn’t until this past weekend that we really got to see them imposing their will on the Badgers’ offensive line.

Starters Shareef Miller and Yetur Gross-Matos were men on a mission against Wisconsin. The fearsome duo combined for eight tackles, three sacks, and four tackles for loss.

On one play, Miller rushed the quarterback, swiping at the ball and forcing Coan to tuck the ball – right into Robert Winsdor, who finished off the sack.

On another play, Shareef managed to catch a fumbled ball in midair, and returned it for a decent gain before fumbling it back – an unfortunate finish to an otherwise incredible play.

And of course, Gross-Matos recovered a fumble on an exceptionally productive day.

With two games left in the regular season, it’s great to have at least one reliable position on the field – with Reef and YGM lining up opposite each other, opposing offenses are going to have a rough time.
