Penn State tried to give the Big Ten Conference a third volleyball team in the NCAA Tournament Final Four, but fell to top-ranked Stanford in four sets (18-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-16) late Saturday night in Palo Alto, California.
So instead, it will be Nebraska playing Big Ten foe Illinois at 8 p.m. and Stanford taking on BYU at 5 p.m. in the nation semifinals in Minneapolis.
Illinois 3, Wisconsin 1: The Illini won 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-12 in the Champaign Regional to reach the Final Four for the fourth time in school history. Jacqueline Quade had 25 kills as Illinois won for the 17th straight match. The Illini are coached by former Nebraska assistant Chris Tamas.
BYU 3, Texas 0: Roni Jones-Perry had a match-high 25 kills for the Cougars, including 11 in the second set, in their 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 swee in Provo, Utah. Lyndie Haddock-Eppich added 45 assists. BYU is in the Final Four for the third time in its history.
