Penn State vs. Rutgers in 1993: The Nittany Lions’ first year in the Big Ten

This year marks the 25th year since Penn State University made the historic move of joining the Big Ten.

Players in 1993 included Mike Archie, running back; Kyle Brady, tight end; Ki-Jana Carter, running back; Kerry Collins, quarterback; Lou Benfatti, defensive tackle; Rob Holmberg, linebacker; and Bobby Engram, wide receiver.

The Nittany Lions record that year was 10-2 (6-2 in the Big Ten).

Sept. 4 – Minnesota, at home, won 38-20

Sept. 11 – USC, at home, won 21-20

Sept. 18 – at Iowa, won 31-0

Sept. 25 – Rutgers, at home, won 31-7

Oct. 2 – at Maryland, won 70-7

Oct. 16 – Michigan, at home, lost 21-13

Oct. 30 – at Ohio State, lost 24-6

Nov. 6 – Indiana, at home, won 38-31

Nov. 13 – Illinois, at home, won 28-14

Nov. 20 – at Northwestern, won 43-21

Nov. 27 – at Michigan State, won 38-37

Jan. 1, 1994 – Citrus Bowl, Orlando, Fla., vs. Tennessee, won 31-13
