Penn State basketball improved to 3-1 on the year with a fairly simple 77-59 win over Wright State on Tuesday night in the Cancun Challenge.
The Nittany Lions were led by Lamar Stevens’ 25 points, the junior has now scored 20 or more points in all four games this season and five straight counting last season’s NIT Championship game over Utah.
Penn State jumped out to a 19-8 lead during a hot-shooting first half as the Nittany Lions took a 45-28 lead into the break. Josh Reaves picked up a double-double effort with 10 points and 10 rebounds while freshman Myles Dread scored 13 points while registering six steals. Jamari Wheeler poured in 12 points and four assists and was 4-of-5 from the field.
Rasir Bolton’s cold shooting continued off the bench going 1-for-6 but the Nittany Lions picked up 12 points from the reserves.
Penn State shot 52.9% from the field while holding Wright State to an ice-cold 27.3%. The Nittany Lions pulled down 32 rebounds but turned the ball over 16 times.
The Nittany Lions are back in action on Wednesday night against Bentley in the Championship Game of the Cancun Challenge at 8:30 EST. Penn State is next back in State College on Nov. 27th against No.13 ranked Virginia Tech.
