Penn State hockey will face Michigan State this weekend with new alternate uniforms, the program announced on Wednesday.
While the tweet Wednesday morning was the first look at the second alternates in program history, Penn State has been teasing the release for a few days now.
The Nittany Lions enter this weekend’s contest having split on the road against Minnesota to open the second semester of play and sit just six points out of first place in the Big Ten regular season race. Michigan State finds itself at the bottom of the conference standings four points behind the Nittany Lions and 10 points behind first place Ohio State. The Spartans have allowed 39 goals this season, second worst in the Big Ten.
it is unknown yet if the Nittany Lions will have the services of forward Evan Barratt and Aarne Talvitie this weekend fresh back for the World Junior Tournament. Both players took part in the tournament title game with Finland and Talvitie winning gold, upending the United States and Barratt.
Talvitie was in Finland as of Monday, and sustained a painful fall into the boards. Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky told reporters earlier in the week he is unsure of Talvitie’s status for this weekend and won’t known until team doctors are able to see any potential injuries up close.
