Where do the experts have Ohio State projected for 2019?

It is an annual tradition for major media outlets covering college football to drop their way-too-early look at the top contenders for the following season just as the last pieces of confetti have dropped to celebrate this year’s national champion.

That was the case this week as Clemson blew out Alabama 44-16 in Monday’s College Football Playoff national championship game. The Tigers became the first modern era college team to finish a season a perfect 15-0.

The leading sports websites came out with their early look at what teams will be in the mix for 2019. As always, the top contenders from the year just completed are prevalent. The sites typically make adjustments based on coaching changes, quarterbacks staying or leaving and other players’ NFL decisions.

We unearthed links to no fewer than 19 such predictions for 2019. We will share their thoughts on Ohio State’s 2019 chances below. The Buckeyes were listed anywhere from third to seventh in these projections for next year.

We looked at each of the various top 10s. Would you believe Clemson was listed No. 1 on 10 of the lists and second on nine lists. Alabama was vice versa with nine No. 1 picks and 10 at No. 2. So Clemson nipped Alabama for the top spot overall with 181 voting points to 180 for Alabama.

The rest of the overall top 14 (taking in all teams listed in a top 10): 3. Georgia, 146; 4. Ohio State, 117; 5. Oklahoma, 113; 6. Texas, 65; 7. Michigan, 45; 8. Notre Dame, 44; 9. Florida, 39; 10. LSU, 26; 11. Oregon, 17; 12. Washington, 13; 13. Texas A&M, 11; 14. Penn State, 1.

Keep in mind, the College Football Playoff semifinals next year will be at the Peach and Fiesta bowls on Sat., Dec. 28. The national championship game will be played on Mon., Jan. 13, 2019, in New Orleans. The rest of the New Years’ Six bowls  will have the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 28 and the Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls on Jan. 1.

Below, we will look at each of these 19 way-too-early top 25 prospections. We will share each site’s top 10 as well as Big Ten projections as well as projections for other OSU opponents (namely Cincinnati, which was mentioned on a few projections). Plus, we will share any comments made about Ohio State.

The last slide will look at OSU’s 2019 schedule.
